The Britannia is the quintessential English Lakeland Inn. Nestled in the centre of the picturesque village of Elterwater amidst the imposing mountains of the Langdale Valley, The Britannia offers a sanctuary away from hectic daily life with real ales and foods to satisfy all tastes. Famous for being one of the best pubs in the area, our bar meals and restaurant food draw people for miles around.

The building is over 400 years old, starting life as a gentleman farmer's residence before becoming a coaching inn. Our bed and breakfast is very popular, with rooms which are quaint and cosy. The main public rooms have bags of character with slate walls feet thick, oak beamed low ceilings and olde worlde atmosphere.

Set in the very heart of the Lake District, with Wordsworth's Grasmere ten minutes over the hill, Ambleside and Lake Windermere only three miles away and Hawkshead and Coniston just a short distance further. In every direction from our front door, there are glorious walks and mountain bike trails.
