4th November 2005

Our annual November firework extravaganza started optimistically, after what felt like 40 days and 40 nights of constant rain, with a dry forecast for the evening of Friday 4th November. Unluckily, the weather didn’t hold and once again the gathered throng had to peer skywards through cascading raindrops. Nevertheless, fortified by a glass of mulled wine or one of our real ales, and warmed by a hearty helping of chilli, a good time was had by all as the selection of fireworks was particularly spectacular this year. Accompanied by soundtracks from the Harry Potter and Lord of The Rings movies, the show lasted nearly an hour and each firework seemed to be a banger or screamer, filling the sky with glorious technicolour.

In addition the crowd gave generously to the charity collection and £303.58 was raised to be split between The Macmillan Fund and The Langdale First Responders.

It has to be said that there aren't many November weekend evenings that have turned out dry here in Elterwater, but on the whole some precipitation doesn't deter us! Let's hope for one of those rare dry Saturday evenings this year.
